The Essence of She - Georgina Shorrock

The Earth is often personified as "Mother Earth," a life-giving figure for centuries, something so beautiful and faultless, bringing life and nourishing all around it; yet in the same sphere, a female body is objectified, judged and defined by their roles as caregivers or nurturers.“The Essence of She” explores and investigates the narrative of women and nature, that being the patriarchal control over the two. I draw on the social, economic and feminist theories surrounding the deep routed sexism towards women, and nature, and how the comparison between the two has been used as a form of control rather than acceptance.
