Have you noticed the recent trend for using the word “human” – as in, “He’s a beautiful human” or, “She’s a spectacular human” – instead of the prosaic “person”, or gendered descriptors of the more and less formal variety: “man”, “woman”, “dude”, “babe”, etc.

Here at Paperboy, we think of this development in the language as an inevitable reaction to the dehumanising, impersonal effects of technology. And we welcome it! We are humans, you’re a human – and we don’t doubt that you’re beautiful, not to mention spectacular. Your intelligence is not artificial, and neither is ours. It’s 100 per cent human.

This issue, our esteemed team of writers, photographers and artists – all living, breathing humans – brings you 148 pages of only Good News, celebrating the wonders of humanity: theirs, yours, ours.

We have human billboards, old humans looking at building sites, 10 pages of wellies (not human, but full of personality!) and, as always, a sobering note from PAM, one of our very favourite humans, to conclude.
