7th July 15th September - Joseph Grant
7th July 15th September is Joseph Grant’s debut book. Chronicling his summer through documentary and street style images Grant seamlessly weaves the surreal and everyday with flashes of nostalgic British summer holidays. The book pivots on the loss of his grandfather, and although not featured in the book, the loss clearly motivates Grant’s choice of subject and prolific image making.
Location varies massively through the book with Grant spending time in Scotland, the North West of England, and London. Choosing to photograph intimate family portraits, the landscapes his hometown is surrounded by, and when spending time in cities the events or places people choose to congregate.
Through the process of publishing the book Joseph Grant spoke repeatedly of the emphasis that should be put on the experimental and spontaneous nature that allowed Grant to capture the scenes in 7th July 15th September. That spontaneity combines with his thorough care and attention to detail when developing and archiving his images to create a memorable and emotive body of work.
