This issue highlights Earl Sweatshirt, Earl emerged in the late 2000s as the teenage prodigy of the Odd Future collective, a crew that built a cult following through self-released music and a skate-inspired aesthetic thatredefined underground rap in the early 2010s. Since releasing his 2010 debut mix-tape Earl at just 16, Earl has steadily built a body of work that resists easy classification. Albums like Doris (2013), I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside (2015), and Some Rap Songs (2018) earned critical acclaim for their density, intimacy, and refusal to conform to mainstream expectations.
