A Line Which Forms A Volume #8

ALWFAV 8 is inspired by the ever-evolving nature of refraction. As refraction only happens in motion, this phenomenon inspired an interactive and omnidirectional format for all of the content included in this issue. While exploring themes such as the affinity between design and choreographic practices, and the multifaceted nature of having a conversation, we interpret refraction as looking at our practice and the narratives we compose in a non-linear way, creating opportunities for different outcomes to work as a whole. A line is predictable in its trajectory until a medium is present that alters its course; we seek to ask questions and find answers on who/what is the medium? The 8th issue features multiple contributions, including an interview with Astrid Vorsterman of Valiz Publishers, conversations with designers and researchers Paul Bailey and Irene Sempere, and an excerpt from ‘Chimeric Worlding’1 by Tiger Dingsun, exploring the potentialities that exist between graphic design, poetics, and worldbuilding, as well as a selection of graphic design-led research developed on the MA Graphic Media Design course.
