Off Licence #16 - Jazz

Just because this is The Jazz Issue doesn’t mean we don’t have an issue with jazz. Off Licence Magazine Issue Sixteen is not the chin-scratching issue — it’s the finger-clicking, barrier-breaking one.

We take on jazz as a word, a sound, and a spirit — less about counting notes, more about movement, improvisation and community. The issue features two covers, with Venna and Kokoroko fronting each side, meeting in the middle as the magazine flips halfway through.

As Kokoroko put it, this issue celebrates ‘Wonderful Black Music’ — expansive, joyful and alive. Inside, Offie Mag explores what jazz means now: musically, culturally and socially.

Features include:

  • Venna
  • Kokoroko
  • Emma-Jean Thackray
  • Tomorrow’s Warriors
  • Allexa Nava

With further contributions from Coco Maria, Haseeb Iqbal, Tina Edwards, and Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, alongside photography and words from Offie Mag’s in-house team and a rotating cast of new writers and image-makers.

We also went to Cuba for Offie Mag Travel, which was nice.

Offie Mag is a multimedia platform for underground music, culture and street photography, based in the United Kingdom. Founded in Brighton & Hove in 2018, you might know us for our events, our radio shows, our hit-and-miss social media content, or our print magazine, which is stocked in retailers across the world.
