Lauca is a tiny, close-knit village in the Masma district of Junín, Peru, home to just three families made up of cousins and siblings. Coffee cultivation is a relatively recent but transformative venture for the community, quickly becoming their most important source of income. This particular lot is produced by Samuel Muñoz and Raúl Ames, two cousins who have lived in Lauca for many years. Samuel farms around 2 hectares of land, while Raúl tends to a smaller 0.5-hectare plot. Despite the modest size of their farms, their dedication to quality is evident in their meticulous process: coffee cherries are selectively harvested, fermented in sealed plastic bags, then depulped and fermented again before being dried over several days.

Samuel and Raúl take immense pride in their coffee, and they’re thrilled to see their remote village recognized through this lot. Naming it after Lauca feels deeply personal—a celebration of both their hard work and the land they call home.

Dark Arts Coffee is a coffee roaster started by friends in East London with twisted visions of using alchemy to combine fire, water and magic beans into a divine elixir.
