Living Proof #13 - Barrington Levy

This issue highlights Barrington Levy, a legendary Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist who emerged in the late 70s, becoming a driving force in reggae’s evolution. 

Levy was born in 1964 in Kingston, Jamaica. In his youth, he and his cousin Everton Dacres came together as Mighty Multitude, releasing their first single in 1977 named “My Black Girl”. Just a year later, at the age of 14, Levy debuted his own solo music.

Levy quickly became a staple in the dancehall scene, having a multitude of collaborations with other artists coming up.

In 1984, Levy and Jah Screw produced the album “Here I Come”, which included the song “Under Mi Sensi.” Levy was also ranked 119 on Rolling Stone’s “200 Greatest Singers of All Time” in the year 2023. To this day, Barrington is still working on music and performing for live audiences.

Issue 13 also highlights graffiti pioneer and artist Futura 2000 and London based writer FATZO as well as presenting “Outerwear” a feature on Jackets from New York City’s graffiti writers . From Tommy Rebel’s archive comes “Bricks”, a look at graffiti on brick walls from a bygone era.

This issue includes features from artists Evil Giane, Soilderboyfriend, and rapper Trill Tega, and Aya Brown We give a look into the lives of Los Angeles artist Alfonso Gonzalez Jr. and Sully Cormier who rides for Baker Skateboards and Supreme.
