On the 3rd of August 2023, we hosted a launch evening for Issue 7 of Filler Zine on the theme of ‘Home’. The evening was designed to evoke a sense of home; Manchester Urban Diggers served up an incredible spread of homey food, made from home-grown ingredients (fresh from Platt Field’s Market Garden), including dolma made following family recipes, freshly baked breads, and a cheese called Linda that had been lovingly matured in a cheese-makers home.
Each copy of Filler has been hand-bound by its creator Holly Eliza Temple (with some help from friends) and contains recipes, articles, memories, and stories that have been carefully curated to explore the many ways that food and home intertwine throughout our lives. It was lovely to welcome several of the contributors to the launch; writers, illustrators, artists, and chefs, who had all found their work a home in Issue 7 of Filler.
Thank you to everyone who came, we hope you enjoyed this unique launch event, and that you left feeling as warmed by Filler’s home comforts as we did. Thank you to Holly for launching Filler with us and for putting together such a special evening, to WineBoy for the drinks, and to Emily and Jo from Manchester Urban Diggers for making such delicious and beautifully presented food that accompanied the event so perfectly.
