Otto Fried - Heaven Can Wait
Beate Reifenscheid
Otto Fried was born in 1922 in Koblenz, but left Germany in 1936 due to the persecution of Jewish citizens and settled in Portland, Oregon. In 1949 he traveled to Paris to work in the studio of Fernand Léger for two years. For a long time he lived and worked in New York and Paris before settling permanently in Paris from 2010
Primarily based on cosmic-looking discs and circles, Fried developed his very own pictorial language, which distinguished him as the heir of the Avantgarde, combining approaches from German Expressionism, French Cubism as well as American Realism up to the Concrete Art developing in France after 1945. Exhibition: Ludwig Museum, Koblenz, Germany (21.06.-16.08.2020).
