BranD #72 - Design as a Workshop

Editor's Letter:

"The boundary of graphic design has never ceased to expand, particularly with the popularization of artificial intelligence tools since 2023 that have further transformed the meaning of the title "designer." Although such technologicat duvelapients may be considered "noise," all such revolutions compel professional designers to contempiate more conaplex issues such as designing more representative elements, finding design logic, expanding their imagination, polishing copywriting, and so on. As designers embrace a greater array of choices in fulfilling their design briefs, iganyennong them have transcended mere discussions of style. Beyond delivering creative solutions for commercial organizations, they embark on journeys of design experimentation, or a workshop about and with themselves. In this endeavor, they freely and creatively express themselves, pause to listen to their own voices, and draw inspirations from personal narratives and everyday insights. They thus become their own designers.
The designers once prioritized the commercial value of design. They explored how to listen to requests, meet demands, and provide visual solutions, In this issue, we will instead consider the value of experimentation in design. By focusing on the insights designers gain through experimentation and self-exploration during the creative processes, we explore the possibilities of commercial design in the future.
We firmly believe the inspiration that visual communication brings to the society, and the respect for designers from the society are inextricably linked to designers' self-explorations. We also believe graphic design should also be a subject of continuous study, rather than just a tool to achieve commercial ends. Every experiment a designer undertakes has the potential to inspire unique solutions for specific business requirements, thereby enriching society's visual environment, and enabling designers to gain greater recognition."
