Artforum - September 2024
n advance of the closing of the Sixtieth Venice Biennale at the end of November, the September 2024 issue of Artforum presents three reviews of Adriano Pedrosa’s “Foreigners Everywhere” by Manuel Borja-Villel, Simon Njami, and Sara Raza. Together, these experienced curators help us recognize the show’s merits as well as its limits, while asking “who gets to count as modern, and who gets to do the counting,” as noted by Tina Rivers Ryan in her editor’s letter. The issue further explores this question through extended reviews of major exhibitions dealing with textiles, the Harlem Renaissance, and Meiji-era Japanese art.
